The four building Equinix campus in Silicon Valley lies to the far south in San Jose, yet it is one of the best-connected data centers in the Bay Area.

The campus consists of 3 buildings (SV1, SV5, and SV10). SV1 was the original data center at 11 Great Oaks when Equinix launched in 1999. SV5 was opened in 2010 and SV10 was completed in late 2017.

Peering Exchanges

Equinix's Silicon Valley campus is home to 2 Internet Exchanges (IXPs).

  • Equinix Exchange San Jose: Equinix's traditional IXP that has been managed by Equinix since inception
  • Equinix Exchange PAIX: The historic Palo Alto Internet Exchange, previously owned by DEC, AboveNet, and Switch and Data. Equinix acquired Switch and Data in 2010.

Connectivity

Equinix operates SV1, SV5, and SV10 as a campus and has extensive fiber conduits connecting the buildings. Cross Connects between buildings are treated as a standard cross-connect.

Equinix also operates Metro Connect (formerly IBXLink) that provides Layer 1 and switch-based Layer 2 services from FastE to 10GE Ethernet circuits between other Equinix facilities in the bay area. (SV2, SV3, SV4, SV6, SV8)

SV10

Built in 2017, SV10 was constructed on an adjacent log. The building is 183,000sqft.

Equinix San Jose Future Expansion

Equinix has plans to expand the San Jose Campus. In 2015, Xilinx sold to Equinix an 18-acre parcel of undeveloped land. The new lot is approximately 1 mile South on Great Oaks Boulevard at the corner of Via Del Oro. Equinix plans to build SV12, SV13, and SV14 on the site. Each new building will be 188,000sqft for a total of 564,000 sqft.

Included in the project's plan is a new PG&E substation (Saint Teresa) that will supplement the Edenvale Service Center Substation at 6402 Sain Teresa Boulevard. The proposed substation would be located between the two campuses on a 1.9-acre lot.
