Vermaland Plans $33bn Data Center in Arizona

Land developer Vermaland is planning a $33bn data center in Arizona dubbed the La Osa Project. The potential facility would be located in Pinal County on a 3,300-acre site south of Eloy, which is a city in between Phoenix and Tucson. The land parcel is located along the Greene Canal.

Once developed, companies would be able to buy or rent space in the complex. Vermaland filed a rezoning application for the site four months ago, and the Pinal County Planning and Zoning Commission held a non-voting informational session for the application on July 17.

The application seeks to rezone the land parcel from Very Low Density Residential, Moderate Low Density Residential, and existing open space to Employment and General Public Facilities/Services for industrial, office, business park, and energy generating facilities.

CEO Kuldip Verma told Arizona Central that the site could support up to 3GW of capacity, which would bring in more capacity than the entire Phoenix Metropolitan area. This would be enabled by upgrading transmission lines from Western Area Power Administration, a federal hydropower marketing administration.
