EdgeConneX plans to establish a new data center facility in Phoenix, Arizona, to expand its presence there. According to BizJournal, the company has applied for Mesa's administrative and design reviews to construct a multi-phased campus near Elliot Road and Loop 202. EdgeConneX wants to build a three-building facility totaling more than 1 million sq ft – along with an on-site substation – on 93 acres of land. The facilities, constructed in three phases, would serve various clients, from colocation to single-tenant.
Since 2017, the company has owned the property through Loop 202 & Elliot Road LLC. A 2018 report indicated that the company was planning a 30-megawatt development with two data centers. The land parcel was initially intended to house the Gateway Super Regional Center, a hub for employment and retail, but the project was never completed. EdgeConnex was built instead.
The company has one data center in Phoenix at present. PHX01, located at 3011 S 52nd Street in the Tempe neighborhood of the city, provides up to 6.5MW of raised floor space across 173,000 square feet. The company, founded in 2014, declared it would add the fourth and fifth data halls to the 79,200-square-foot site in December 2021, increasing PHX01's capacity from 4MW to 7MW.
