Van Caem, a Dutch developer, has shared its plans to develop a 100MW data center in Germany on a brownfield site near Rhinstraße 139 in Berlin-Lichtenberg. With an investment of €1 billion ($1bn), the facility is set to be the fifth largest in the country and the largest in Berlin.
Earlier design plans indicated that the space would be home to office buildings, although this was some time ago. On a list of local government-approved projects, it is outlined that the development will see the building of "a data center with four data centers, four energy centers, a substation, and a gatehouse."
Economics Senator Franziska Giffey will officially launch the project next Wednesday, while the facility is due to open in 2026. Further, the data center is set to be built by Schönefeld's Prea Group on the site, currently in use by KraftRaT, a motorbike training company.
