Virtus Data Centres has announced its plans to build a new data center campus in Berlin, Germany, as part of its global expansion plans. Named Virtus Berlin 1, the facility will be built in Marienpark Berlin and will feature four buildings, offering at least 90MVA of power. The project will be developed in conjunction with the real estate development company Investa.

Mirroring a number of circular projects across Europe, Virtus Berlin 1 will be connected to a waste heat distribution system, which Marienpark will provide. This element will see collaboration between Investa and natural gas supplier Gasag AG.

Neil Cresswell, CEO of Virtus, said that the partnership leverages the local knowledge of Investa, and is coupled with the operational expertise of Virtus, which he cited as key to the company's success in Berlin, one of the fastest-growing markets in Europe, and other EU markets.

The facility is pegged to become operational in 2026.
