Brazilian fiber firm V.tal has launched a new data center subsidiary. At the same time, the company has broken ground on a new facility in Fortaleza and acquired land in São Paulo for its first data center in the city.
“The Tecto Data Centers brand was officially launched yesterday during an event with authorities and the press to plant the cornerstone of the high-scale, high-density Mega Lobster data center in Fortaleza,” the company said over the weekend. Tecto’s launch was paired with a $1 billion investment plan by V.tal to expand its data center footprint in Brazil. This will be funded by shareholder BTG Pactual, as well as Singapore’s GIC and Canada’s CPP Investments.

Pedro Henrique Fragoso, a partner at BTG Pactual, will lead Tecto as its CEO. He said: “The data center business is becoming increasingly strategic for V.tal, which has significant knowledge in investments and infrastructure projects. Considering that, we have decided to separate the unit. We have developed a robust plan for the construction of new Edge and hyperscale data centers that will place us on a new level in this market.”
