V.tal, a Brazilian data center company, has acquired land in Fortaleza, Brazil, to construct a data center. The facility, which will have 20MW of IT capacity, has been named Mega Lobster. It will also be the first hyperscale-oriented initiative for the company. The size, cost, and construction completion date were not divulged.
The data center will be linked to V.tal's Fortaleza-based subsea cable landing station and an Edge data center known as Big Lobster that was inaugurated in February with a 4MW capacity. Mega Lobster will utilize V.tal's terrestrial fiber grid to connect clients to Ceara's primary Internet exchange.
Additionally, V.tal maintains 10MW data centers in Rio de Janeiro, Colombia, Brazil, and Barranquilla. It intends to construct a second data center in Porto Alegre, Brazil. Every one of V.tal's facilities is connected by optical cables that span 16,000 miles and connect Brazil to Argentina, Chile, Venezuela, Colombia, Bermuda, and the US. In 2022, the company invest $943 million in data facilities, fiber, and modernization. The company holds the largest neutral fiber optic network in Brazil.
