Singapore, 8 April 2021 – ST Telemedia Global Data Centres (STT GDC) today announced the construction of STT Defu 3, its newest data centre facility in Singapore to date, the group’s eighth local facility and the latest addition to their flagship Defu data centre campus. STT Defu 3 will boast an IT load capacity of 15MW, bringing the Defu campus to a total capacity of 40MW. The hyperscale data centre has also been designed to meet the highest sustainability benchmark of BCA-IMDA Green Mark Platinum and LEED v4.
The seven-level facility at Defu Avenue 1, will have a Gross Floor Area (GFA) of over 156,000 square feet (14,500 square metres). It is expected to be completed by Q3 2022.
With the addition of STT Defu 3, the STT Defu campus will also operate with a central monitoring and security system and offer vital internal fibre connections that link STT Defu 3 with the other two data centres on-campus. This mesh of fibre optic pathways will enable our customers to establish private fibre links between our buildings. STT Defu 3 will also benefit from access to any telecommunication carriers who are already present on-campus.
"The Defu and Tai Seng industrial estates are part of a fast-growing data centre cluster in northeast Singapore. Expanding our STT Defu campus underscores our dominance in this data centre zone and in Singapore where we are leading with a significant footprint of eight data centres in multiple regions. The data centre campus has also been a key pillar of our growth strategy. This campus strategy enables our customers to easily expand within and to other STT GDC campuses nearby as well as tap on the rich connectivity that serves the growing demands in the Asia Pacific region. This has given customers the confidence that we can support their high-growth requirements in a cost-efficient manner." said Clement Goh, CEO - Southeast Asia, ST Telemedia Global Data Centres.
Supporting our recently announced pledge to achieve carbon-neutral data centre operations by 2030, STT Defu 3 will have market-leading power usage effectiveness (PUE) standards and sustainable features such as elevated chilled water temperatures. All equipment has been selected to have market-leading efficiencies without compromising reliability.
“With the ever-growing need for more data processing and storage capacity, building a new facility will enable STT GDC to meet the skyrocketing demand for capacity and expand on our existing technologies. With every new data centre, we also have the opportunity to incorporate the latest sustainable components in our design to ensure we maintain a low carbon footprint and optimal energy efficiency in spite of our business growth. Operating our business sustainably is a core tenet of our values and this is reflected in the design ethos for each new data centre globally, where we seek to embed the latest technologies in order to bring even more sustainable solutions to bear, and create new value for our customers, shareholders and people.” said Bruno Lopez, President and Group CEO, ST Telemedia Global Data Centres.
STT Defu 3 will also be built to comply with the most stringent global standards on business continuity and security. The new Tier 3 data centre facility will provide high levels of redundancy in terms of power, storage, compute and network capacity to ensure smooth operations in the event of any unforeseen circumstances. It will also meet the Threat Vulnerability Risk Assessment (TVRA) to the highest level to offer the most secure operational environment.
