South Korea: South Korean Internet company Kakao completes DC construction

South Korean internet company Kakao has revealed that its first in-house data center, Kakao Data Center Ansan, is now completed and is ready for full-scale operation in the first quarter of 2024. The center partially opened in 2021 but officially completed construction on September 26, 2023. 

In a press release, the company said that the new campus on the Hanyang University ERICA campus has 47,378 square meters of hyperscale, capable of operating over 10,000 servers, and can hold 120,000 servers. 

According to the company, this center has several renewable energy infrastructures, including rainwater, greywater, and heat recycling systems. Kakao also designed the campus to withstand natural disasters like floods, fires, and earthquakes. 

Kakao CEO Hong Eun-taek said, “Kakao’s data center, which perfectly responds to any disaster or accident, will be an important cornerstone of Kakao’s commitment and promise to protect everyone’s normal daily lives with stable services.” He added that the company plans further expansion of its data center and will maintain and expand its leased space.
