A proposed gigawatt-scale data center campus in Kansas could cover up to 1,000 acres in Emporia’s Industrial Park IV. The Flint Hills Digital Campus plans to use a combination of dedicated grid infrastructure and on-site power generation, though further details have yet to be released.
A proposed gigawatt-scale data center campus in Kansas is currently under review by the City of Emporia, which is considering annexation, zoning changes, and the creation of a Digital Infrastructure Overlay District (DI-O). The project is being advanced by local landowner Gary Pinkston in partnership with Kanza Park.
“The Flint Hills Digital Campus represents an opportunity to address some of those challenges while positioning this region for the future,” he says in an open letter on the project website. “The project has the potential to attract substantial private investment, support thousands of construction jobs and hundreds of permanent jobs, create opportunities for local businesses, and significantly expand the county's tax base.”
“The Flint Hills Digital Campus represents an opportunity to engage the community in discussions about the future of economic development, technology infrastructure, workforce growth, and long-term regional competitiveness,” said Garrett Nordstrom, Kanza Park Place LLC. “We welcome public engagement throughout the planning process and look forward to continuing conversations with residents, businesses, local governments, and regional partners.”
