Another data center development is being proposed in Pennsylvania. As reported by the Times-Tribune and WVIA, Popca LLC has filed plans to develop a two-building campus in Newton Township.
Popca’s application was first filed in January but was denied in February, according to local reports, as data centers are not an allowed use in the township. The site is reportedly located within Newton Township’s rural resource zoning district. The township zoning hearing board is scheduled to hear an appeal on April 27.
Local landowner Mark Gawron is the owner of Popca LLC. Local reports indicate he acquired the site in 2017 from the Lackawanna County Tax Claim Bureau. Newton Township is located in Lackawanna County, in northeast Pennsylvania. The county has seen a growing number of proposed data center developments in recent months. In nearby Archbald, five projects have been proposed that could total around 4.7 million sq ft (439,400 sqm) across 29 buildings at full build-out.
