A new data center firm called Open Access Data Centres (OADC) has revealed plans for its first two data centers in Nigeria and South Africa. Earlier in November, Wholesale fiber network company WIOCC revealed that it raised $200 million to launch a new data center based in Africa called OADC. OADC has also revealed that it would be investing up to $500 million over five years.
Chief commercial officer for OADC, Kevin McLoughlin, said the company is happy to be working with the amazing wholesale community including telcos, content providers, and internet service providers. He added that the company would be helping them scale and expand their businesses into new markets and territories across the continent.
The company has broken ground on the two planned facilities. The data center in Nigeria will be located in Lekki, Lagos. It will also sit on a four-hectare site. In addition, the $100 million data center will be built to Tier III standards while covering 77,500 square feet (7,200 square meters) of white space. It will also have up to 20MW of capacity, expandable to 40MW. The data center's first phase is scheduled to be completed in Q2 2022.
The facility in South Africa will be located in Durban. It will offer 23,700 square feet (2,200 square meters) of white space and 5MW of capacity. It is scheduled to be completed in early 2022.
