According to The Economic Times, Microsoft has acquired a plot of land for data center development in Pune, India. The company bought 25 acres of land in the Pimpri-Waghere area of Pune. Per reports, Microsoft made the deal by getting Finolex Industries to transfer its long-term lease on the land for close to Rs 329 crore ($39.7m). Both companies failed to comment on the report.

Microsoft launched three cloud regions in Chennai, Mumbai, and Pune in 2015. The company also added three availability zones in Pune later in December 2021. The Pune region is the only Indian Azure region with availability zones. Microsoft also announced plans for a Hyderabad region earlier in the year.
