Meta/Facebook has revealed that it is expanding its Altoona, Iowa data center facility again. The company announced that it is developing two new buildings at the campus that will bring the facility to five million square feet. Meta noted that the expansion will be its seventh, and by so doing, will make Altoona its largest operational data center globally upon completion. Meta started developing the data center in 2013. According to Meta, the new expansion will be completed in 2025. Meta also said it would have invested over $2.5 billion in total on the campus.
Meta also announced an expansion on the facility earlier in May. Meta revealed that it was developing two more buildings at the facility to bring the total buildings to ten. The development was also scheduled to be completed in 2023.
