Facebook announced this week that it is expanding its Los Lunas data center in New Mexico. Facebook plans to add another two buildings to the facility. Upon completion, the site will have almost 3.8 million square feet of space. The social media giant's investment in the facility will also rise to $2 billion. The company said Los Lunas had been a fantastic location for its facility since construction began five years ago. Facebook also revealed that it had poured 126,792 cubic yards of concrete and erected close to 20,000 tons of steel.
In addition, Facebook says it has recycled 88 percent of construction waste while also hiring 1,100 construction workers on-site at its peak. Facebook also announced a global goal to restore 200 percent of the water consumed by its data center into the watersheds of New Mexico. It also promised to be water positive by 2030.
