Helios Investment Partners has acquired two data center firms. The Africa-focused investment company also acquired majority stakes in Kenya’s IXAfrica and Morocco’s Maroc Datacenter (MDC). The company said in a statement that IXAfrica and MDC are in the correct position to play significant roles in digitally transforming Kenya and Morocco. It added that the companies would greatly benefit from Helios’ experience and expertise to develop state-of-the-art, fast-growing, multi-country, high-impact platforms across Africa.
The company did not reveal the terms of the MDC deal. However, its total investment in IXAfrica is $50m. MDC was founded in 2017 and operates a single 21,500 square feet (2,000 square meters) data center in Rabat, Morocco. Helios noted that the data center would be pivotal in Helios’ hyperscale data center platform.
IXAfrica was founded in 2021 and is currently developing a 20MW data center on a 186,215 square feet (17,300 square meters) plot in Mombasa, Kenya.
