Haffner Energy Launches Biomass Power And Cooling System For Data Centers

Haffner Energy has launched a modular biomass-based power and cooling system for data centers. Built on its CORE100 platform and new C-iB multi-module system, the solution provides local, low-carbon power, cooling, and reduced water use. It can scale to tens of megawatts or more, helping data centers expand without waiting for grid upgrades while reducing their reliance on grid power.

The system uses residual biomass that can be stored on-site or nearby for weeks and supports various forestry and agricultural feedstocks. The solution is offered in a 10-module configuration with two redundant modules and limited natural gas backup. The C-iB is designed for multi-module deployments and also produces biochar, potentially enabling biogenic carbon removal.

"A single project can call for more than ten modules, with each module integrated into a full-service data center offering generating about €6m ($6.98m) in revenue – nearly three times what a module used solely for syngas production would bring in," Philippe Haffner, chairman and CEO of Haffner Energy, said. "That additional revenue doesn't require a proportional increase in our industrial capacity, since some of the complementary equipment is supplied by specialized partners."
