US hydrogen fuel cell developer FuelCell Energy has signed its first binding data center power agreement with US developer Fit Energy USA. Under the deal, FuelCell will provide up to 380MW of on-site fuel cell generation to power data centers behind the meter, potentially marking one of the largest fuel cell deployments to date. The agreement includes an upfront deposit for an initial 30MW, with deliveries expected to start later this year and the remaining capacity rolled out in phases based on project milestones.

"Today's announcement marks a critical step in building the power foundation required for the next generation of AI infrastructure," said Joel Leonoff, CEO of Fit Energy. "FuelCell Energy's technology aligns with our growth objectives and our goal of delivering behind-the-meter power solutions to data centers at gigawatt scale.

"This agreement further validates our decision to scale our operations to 500MW, preserving our ability to serve a broad and growing pipeline of customers," added Jason Few, president and CEO of FuelCell Energy.

Fit Energy is a Florida-based energy infrastructure developer focused on long-term ownership of generation assets for the digital economy, with limited public detail on its broader data center activity. FuelCell Energy develops carbonate fuel cell systems for data centers, offering 1.25MW, 2.5MW, and 12.5MW units, with a 12.5MW model launched in March. The company has also signed non-binding agreements with Sustainable Development Capital and Inuverse to explore additional deployments.
