Google is considering developing a data center campus at Wood Haven Technology Park in Roanoke County, Virginia. Google and the Western Virginia Regional Industrial Facility Authority confirmed the potential project on October 16.
Google's regional public affairs manager, Clay Allsop, said: “Google has more than 20 years of experience responsibly building data centers and is proud of the relationships we’ve built in the Roanoke community since announcing our data center project in Botetourt County. We are committed to growing this collaboration as a long-term partner in the Roanoke Region. We will continue our due diligence process on Wood Haven and keep the local community updated as more information

Due diligence and site inspections are expected to continue through March 2027, with entitlements targeted for September 2027. Local residents raised concerns at a Western Virginia Regional Industrial Facility Authority meeting about potential noise, vibrations, water use, and impacts on nearby property values. Wood Haven Technology Park spans 111 acres at the junction of Interstates 81 and 581. It includes 54 acres of graded, development-ready land with utilities installed.
WVRIFA first disclosed the potential project in September, but details on its size, buildings, and IT capacity remain unknown. Prologis previously agreed to acquire 94 acres at the site in April 2025, but the sale fell through after several extensions. Google is also developing campuses in Botetourt and Chesterfield counties and operates a Virginia cloud region launched in 2017.
