Google: Google announces intentions for Texas's Red Oak data center facility

Google will construct a second campus in Texas in the Red Oak neighborhood of Dallas. This week, the company announced intentions to invest $600 million in the Dallas-Fort Worth region of Texas to build its second data center. The search, advertising, and cloud company stated that it would invest $330 million in the Ellis County project this year, with the ultimate cost of the data center expected to reach at least $600 million over multiple years.

Red Oak's director of economic development, Lee McCleary, told the Dallas Morning News that the 156 N. Austin Blvd. data center will be approximately 285,000 square feet and will take two years to construct. In 2019, Google constructed a data center in the Midlothian neighborhood of Dallas-Fort Worth using its Alamo Mission LLC shell corporation and the project name Sharka. After acquiring 375 acres, the corporation purchased an additional 165 acres for future development. In June 2022, Google launched a cloud region in Dallas, Texas.

The Compass development site is near the Google campus. In 2020, the company acquired approximately 225 acres of land in Red Oak to construct up to 350MW of data centers. This campus, located at 300 Houston School Road, has one one-million-square-foot building and another two-hundred-fifty-thousand-square-foot facility expected to be completed by the end of last year.
