Australian real estate firm Goodman Group has withdrawn plans for Project Mars, a 90MW data center campus in Sydney’s Lane Cove area. The company said the application was withdrawn following significant changes to the policy and regulatory environment for large-scale data center development since planning began in March 2025.
“Goodman has carefully considered these changes together with feedback received through the planning process, including the views of the local community,” the company said. “Having considered emerging federal and state policy, Goodman has concluded that it will not progress with the development application.”
Goodman has also submitted an official withdrawal letter through the New South Wales planning portal. Project Mars was first reported in April 2025. The planned 90MW campus at 12 Mars Road would have involved a AU$1.2 billion ($725m) investment to build two two-story facilities totaling 18,830 sqm. Goodman has data center projects across Hong Kong, Australia, Germany, the US, France, and Japan. The company continues to develop several projects in Sydney, including a 126MW facility in Guildford West, an 80MW redevelopment of the former ABC studios in North Shore, a 90MW facility in Mascot, and a 135MW project in Macquarie Park.
