GDA, a Bitcoin miner, establishes three data centers in South Carolina

Genesis Digital Assets (GDA), a Bitcoin mining corporation, launched three data centers in South Carolina with a total capacity of 33MW. One data center is located near the community of Anderson, while the other two are between Union and Lockhart. The Anderson facility has been active since February with a capacity of 18MW, while the Union/Lockhart facilities began operations the following month with a total capacity of 15MW.

The company utilized local suppliers and contractors for the construction of the facilities, noting in a press release that the Anderson facility is a repurposed textile warehouse and was constructed with infrastructure equipment made in North America. The Union/Lockhart facility employed 95 percent of South Carolina-based contractors—the three facilities created 150 employees in total.

When necessary, the Anderson data center will feed back excess energy to the grid, while the Union/Lockhart facilities are just three miles from two Lockhart Power hydroelectric generating facilities. According to the corporation, the state's abundance of clean energy sources was a factor in its decision to locate there.

The inauguration of three new facilities is part of the company's broader expansion in the United States. The company asserts that its portfolio of over 20 data centers accounts for more than 2% of the complete Bitcoin network's hash rate. GDA has more than 400MW of IT capacity in total.
