Ubiquity has acquired EdgePresence, a provider of custom-built Edge data centers that recently claimed DataBank as one of its investors. The acquisition terms were not disclosed. Doug Recker, the founder of EdgePresence, and its current personnel will be supported by Ubiquity's leadership team, according to Ubiquity. Hugh Carspecken, co-founder of Dartpoints, will lead the new business entity Ubiquity Edge.
The website of EdgePresence now redirects to the Ubiquity Edge solutions page. Before going offline, however, the company announced that it had established 11 data centers in Atlanta, Savannah, and Statesboro, Georgia; Austin, Texas; Boulder and Denver, Colorado; Gainesville, Melbourne, and Jacksonville (x2), Florida; and Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. It listed goals for 12 more across the United States.
Ubiquity Edge said it offers initial facilities in San Diego and Los Angeles, California; Dallas and Austin, Texas; and Orlando and Jacksonville, Florida, and will deploy additional sites nationwide to meet customer demand. Current tenants include wireless and wired broadband providers and fiber transport companies.
EdgePresence deployed a facility in Orlando, Florida, in May 2022 and stated that it intended to deploy four additional EdgePods in the markets of Washington, DC, and Los Angeles, California, within the next few months.
