Echelon Data Centres: Echelon Data Centers-linked firm planning battery storage facility in Dublin

Over the last few years, Ireland has witnessed a significant data center boom, so much so, that Ireland introduced a moratorium in Dublin to halt the development of further data centers in the city. As part of this de facto moratorium, EirGrid has outlined that no new grid connection applications for data centers will be accepted until 2028. For this reason, data center companies are increasingly looking for alternative ways to power their facilities.

Echelon Data Centers-linked firm Data and Power Hub Services, for example, is now planning a large battery storage facility close to Grange Castle Business Park, one of Dubin’s major data center parks. Originally, the company had planned a 100 MW gas-fired power station, but these plans were abandoned.

According to the filing, the company intends to develop the following:
  • A two-story power trunk building,
  • A three-story BESS building totaling 18,560 sqm (200,00 sq ft), and
  • A single-story administrative welfare building.

The company has outlined that the battery building will contain 63 battery containers, as well as a roof solar array of 1384 panels.
