Keppel has filed with the Fingal and South Dublin County Councils as it seeks to install battery energy storage at its data centers in the Irish capital. These storage systems for both facilities are to be provided by Grid Beyond Limited, which provides grid-connected battery technologies and management software.
The company plans to install an energy storage unit consisting of two new battery storage units, two new HV power skids (PCS transformer and HV RMU), two new MV transformers, a concrete slab, and a security fence of 2.4 meters in height, including two new internal gate entrances at its Dublin 1 site in the Citywest Business Campus.
The plans for its Dublin 2 facility in Ballycoolin Business and Technology Park, Keppel, include the installation of a 4MW battery energy storage system (BESS) to "improve power quality on site." This comes amid an ongoing de facto moratorium on new data centers in Dublin imposed by state-owned grid operator EirGrid due to transmission issues, operators are taking different approaches in the city.
