Digital Realty’s KIX15 data center will add 24MW of capacity to its KIX Campus in Ibaraki City, Osaka Prefecture, Japan. Developed by MC Digital Realty, a 50/50 joint venture between Digital Realty and Mitsubishi Corporation, KIX15 will be the campus’s fifth building. Operations are expected to begin in Q4 2028, bringing the joint venture’s total Japanese IT capacity to 220MW. Serene Nah, Digital Realty’s managing director and head of Asia Pacific, said Japan remains a strategic market and a key part of the company’s long-term regional growth plans.
“KIX15 is the next step in that commitment. As customer requirements become more distributed and complex, the combination of local scale and global reach will become increasingly important.”
Kohei Yamashita, representative director and CEO of MC Digital Realty, added: “Kansai has a growing opportunity to play a larger role in Japan’s AI economy. Realizing that potential will require an ecosystem that can support businesses as they build and scale AI, bringing together computing infrastructure, connectivity, and technology expertise.”
KIX15 will support hybrid air- and liquid-cooling technologies. Earlier this year, Digital Realty added its third data center at the NRT campus in Inzai, near Tokyo. Construction of the 31MW NRT14 began in May 2024.
