Sweden’s Land and Environment Court at Nacka District Court has granted Google’s subsidiary, DSC International AB, permission to build a data center in Horndal, Sweden. Although Google said the land was a potential data center location when they acquired the 109-hectare site in 2017, they said there were no immediate plans to use it. The specifications for the data center weren’t disclosed.

Details of the approval of building a data center on the land show that DSC must ensure to use fossil-free fuel for its reserve power generators by 2030. DSC must also take necessary steps to utilize waste heat. Google must begin building the facility within ten years, however, there’s no certainty that Google will start construction anytime soon.
