Cloud provider Civo plans to deploy 40 Edge data centers across the UK, starting with an 8MW facility in Hertfordshire. The sites will support sovereign AI compute, including Nvidia Vera Rubin NVL72 systems. The Hertfordshire facility is being fitted out with 8MW of capacity and can scale to 38MW. Civo has secured five additional sites in Lancashire, Greater Manchester, London, and Oxfordshire, offering a combined 150MW. The remaining locations are planned for development over the next three years
“Britain has the talent. What it needs is infrastructure to match it,” said Mark Boost, CEO of Civo. “Policy alone will not deliver that. Compute, cooling and density have to exist physically, in this country, close to the organizations using them. Our distributed Edge network gives UK organizations sovereign, high-density infrastructure where the processing actually needs to happen, and gives international organizations a secure, compliant UK home for their services and data.”
The data centers will use direct-to-chip liquid cooling to support Nvidia Vera Rubin hardware. Further details have not been disclosed, including whether Civo will build the facilities itself or lease capacity from other providers. Earlier this year, Civo partnered with Era4 to combine its cloud software with Era4’s data center network and launch a sovereign AI cloud platform in the UK. Era4 was then reported to have more than 40 brownfield and industrial sites across England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland.
