Amazon Web Services (AWS) has received planning approval for a new data center project in Iver, Buckinghamshire, UK. Buckinghamshire Council approved the development, which will replace 17 industrial and warehouse units with a data center featuring 27 backup generators. Planning officers acknowledged potential impacts on the surrounding landscape but concluded that the project’s data center capacity and employment benefits outweighed them.

Amazon will contribute £600,382 to projects aimed at offsetting air pollution from the development and will monitor generator emissions. It will also invest £73,000 to improve public rights of way near the site. Further details on construction traffic, drainage, and water use still need to be submitted. Amazon Data Services filed the project in October 2025 after buying the site for £132.5 million in 2022. The planned 30,525 sqm (328,560 sq ft) campus will replace existing structures with a two-story data center, electrical infrastructure, substation, and 27-generator yard.

The generators are expected to primarily use hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO). The site will use direct evaporative cooling with outside air for most of the year, while adiabatic cooling will use rainwater as its primary supply and mains water as a backup during hotter periods. Iver is located near Slough, a major data center hub in the Greater London area. AWS operates one UK cloud region, branded as London, and is linked to several other data center projects across the country.
