Chemours Launches Two New Refrigerants for Data Center Chillers

Chemical company Chemours has introduced two new refrigerants for use in data center chillers. The NYSE-listed company announced this week that Opteon ZE (R-1234ze(E)) and Opteon 515B (R-515B) are now available for stationary chiller applications. According to Chemours, the new refrigerants give customers additional low-global warming potential (GWP) options for large-scale cooling systems, including those supporting the rapidly expanding AI and data center sectors.

“AI is reshaping the demands placed on cooling infrastructure, and customers need solutions that can keep pace without compromising efficiency, reliability, or long-term regulatory readiness,” said Joseph Martinko, president, Thermal & Specialized Solutions at Chemours. “With Opteon ZE and Opteon 515B, Chemours is expanding the choices available to chiller OEMs and operators as they build and maintain the critical systems powering data centers, commercial buildings, and other mission-critical environments, while further strengthening our position in attractive, high-growth cooling applications.”

Opteon ZE (R-1234ze(E)) is an HFO-based refrigerant designed for chillers, heat pumps, air conditioning, and data center cooling. Opteon 515B (R-515B) is a zero-ODP blend containing 91.1 percent R-1234ze(E) and 8.9 percent R-227ea, aimed at conventional chiller applications. Both are currently available in select markets, with wider availability expected as demand grows.
