D-Insights reports that data center operator Area31 plans to spend $67.5 million on its Depok, Indonesia, data facility over the next 5 years. The data center is located in the Cimanggis neighborhood of Depok, West Java. The first development phase has been concluded, and 600 racks have been installed. The data center can provide 20MW.
Area31 belongs to PT Dunia Virtual Online (DVO), a provider of data and payment gateway for the financial industry, content providers, and cloud providers. The company's data center operation began in 2022 when it rented a building to house its racks. The Area31 Data Center's first phase, which was deployed in January 2023, was subsequently built by the company.
The colocation data center is on 215,000 square feet of land and can house 1,200 servers. The facility has a 'military shelter design' with eight levels of security and a 37,670 sq ft rooftop dedicated to teleportation services. According to the company, the data center can accommodate as many as fourteen earth station antennas for satellite communications providers.
As per a report by Mordor Intelligence, the Indonesian market is projected to reach $3.07 billion or Rp 45.9 trillion in 2026, double its value in 2020. A lot has happened this year; we have seen Equinix join forces with Astra for a joint venture aiming to construct a data center in Jakarta, Indonesia; BDx break ground on another Jakarta facility; Singtel break ground on a data center in Batam; and Princeton Digital Group revealed plans to invest $1bn moving into the country and neighboring Malaysia.
