International private equity firm APL Group (also known as Asia Pacific Land) this week announced the development of a hyperscale data center campus in Varkaus, in the province of Eastern Finland.
The data center will be built on a 28-hectare site and has a planned capacity of up to 100MW. The first phase of the 75,000 square meter (807,295 sq ft) project will offer 60MW, with an additional 40MW planned.
“This is a new milestone for APL as it enters the dynamic Nordic market, stable and business-friendly Finland,” said Peng Zhang, APL's Europe director and CEO. “We are committed to working closely with the city of Varkaus to promote long-term growth and new opportunities, and to strengthen the region in the digital economy."
“Varkaus offers an excellent framework for the development of modern digital infrastructure by combining energy availability, digital readiness, and environmental sustainability. We welcome APL to support the city's transformation into a regional hub through its new data center,” said Joonas Hänninen, Mayor of Varkaus.
