AirTrunk has filed for its Sydney, Australia, SYD3 data center campus. After purchasing the land in 2021, the company has submitted plans to the New South Wales Department of Planning for a 320MW data center spanning 1.3 million square feet across seven stories.
The property in question cost $74.1 million and is located at 51 Huntingwood Drive, about 19 miles west of Sydney. From start to finish, it's anticipated that the project will cost close to $670 million. The development will be constructed in phases, including bulk earthwork and demolition, and it will include three below-ground water tanks, each with a 335,000-liter capacity, two substations, 30 diesel fuel storage tanks, 216 emergency backup generators, 172 hybrid dry-coolers, and 86 water-cooled chillers.
According to Greenbox Architects, the building will be 50 meters tall and contain 2,592 lithium-ion battery cabinets. The proposal has undergone the exhibition phase, during which individuals are encouraged to express their opinions and objections to the proposed development. Currently, the project remains listed as "more information needed" and is still being evaluated.
Willowtree Planning submitted the application on behalf of property developer EMKC.
