AirTrunk, an APAC data center developer, has begun constructing a 70MW expansion to one of its Sydney, Australia campuses. The organization announced this week that construction has begun on the final two stages of its SYD2 facility. The two-phase development is anticipated to be completed in 2024. The facilities will increase the campus' total capacity to 120MW. According to AirTrunk, this was the company's greatest expansion at a single data center.

In March 2021, the 4.2-hectare SYD2 was launched for the first time after being announced in 2019. The company reported that the second phase of the campus opened at the beginning of 2023 but made no public announcement then. It will provide 312,150 square feet of technical space across 24 data halls upon completion.  AirTrunk's second Sydney campus, dubbed SYD1 and inaugurated in 2017, is in Sydney. In July of 2022, the company completed the fifth and final structure on the property. A third Sydney campus is in the planning stages. The campus will provide 42 data halls and 320MW over nine phases, totaling 753,475 square feet of technical space. AirTrunk, owned by Macquarie, has an additional Australian campus in Melbourne, Victoria.

AirTrunk completed a 20MW expansion at its MEL1 facility in Melbourne last month. In 33 weeks, phase 4 expansion was completed. The campus, which was launched in 2017, has a 120MW capacity. The company also has campuses in Hong Kong, Singapore, Tokyo, Japan (x2), and Johor, Malaysia, that are operational or under construction.
