Africa Data Centres (ADC) has announced that it has started expansion work on its Samrand data center. The expansion will see ADC add 30MW of power to one of its Johannesburg data center campuses. Africa Data Centres (ADC) is pan-African technology group business of Cassava Technologies. It owns and operates data centers in Kenya, South Africa, and Nigeria. Upon completion of the expansion, ADC’s total capacity will exceed 100MW.
The CEO of Africa Data Centres, Tesh Durvasula, said: “The expansion will happen in multiple phases. The construction of the first phase is starting today [August 30] and will deliver 20MW across eight data halls by 2023. The next phase will include an additional 10MW of IT load by the end of 2025." According to him, the infrastructure will be modular and prefabricated off-site. American Data Centres acquired the Samrand facility in 2020 from Standard Bank. The 700,000 square feet (65,000 square meter) data center was built to Tier IV standards.
