500-Acre Texas Data Center Project Eyed by PowerHouse

A 500-acre data center campus could be developed near Austin, Texas. Data center developer PowerHouse Data Centers is planning a facility in Caldwell County, located between Austin and San Antonio. While details remain limited, the company is understood to be targeting the Caldwell Valley Technology Park for the project.

The proposed site is located near the city of Uhland, which sits along the border of Caldwell and neighboring Hays counties. Caldwell Valley Technology Park is backed by powered-land developer Tract, which has said the site could support up to 4GW of capacity.

In a bid to avoid potential opposition, PowerHouse has filed a petition to remove the proposed facility from Uhland’s jurisdiction, opting instead to work directly with Caldwell County, according to the Austin Business Journal. In Texas, counties generally have less authority than cities over the regulation and oversight of data center developments, particularly in areas such as planning and zoning.
