150MW Data Center Planned for Norfolk, UK

A data center could be developed in Norfolk, UK. First reported by the Norwich Evening News, Norwich Apex Ltd plans a two-story data center, substation, and three-story office building on a 13-hectare site off Ipswich Road in Norwich. The company secured planning permission for the Apex Business Park in 2018 but has yet to begin construction. A planning application to switch the site to data center use is expected in the coming weeks.

Norwich Apex originally planned the site as an industrial business park, but shifted its focus after Ørsted announced in 2024 that the Hornsea 3 onshore converter would be built nearby. The company is now reportedly planning a 150MW data center. "We are delighted to bring forward these proposals for a modern, efficient and sustainable piece of digital infrastructure," managing director Matt Bartram told the Evening News.

"Our goal is to create a facility that not only supports the UK's growing demand for data and connectivity but also responds sensitively to its surroundings through careful design, landscaping and environmental consideration and helps to drive economic growth in the wider Norwich area."

Norwich Apex's executives also have ties to modular housebuilder Future-Built. Norfolk has a small data center market. Norwich is home to two commercial facilities, with another planned at Norwich Research Park, alongside sites operated by the county council and the local university hospital.norwhich_norfolk_apex.width-358.webp
