A 115-acre data center project could come to Osawatomie, Kansas, says the local government.
“The city has entered into a predevelopment agreement with Alcove Development to explore the feasibility of a potential data center campus,” reads a post by the City of Osawatomie.
Alcove’s proposed data center could cover up to 600,000 square feet (55,740 sqm) and deliver between 50MW and 150MW of capacity. The project is expected to attract $900 million to $1.1 billion in total investment and would receive a proposed 50% property tax abatement over 10 years.
Commentators on the city of Osawatomie’s Facebook page seem to have mixed feelings about the prospects of building a data center in the area. But the city is adamant that the point of a predevelopment agreement is to “answer questions, not to avoid them.”
