Wansbeck Regeneration has submitted a planning application for a £3.84bn data centre campus in West Sleekburn, located within Northumberland's AI Growth Zone. Planned for a former GlaxoSmithKline site, the 356,500-square-metre project consists of three buildings situated less than two miles from a separate £10bn Blackstone-backed QTS campus.

The development is projected to create 665 to 785 jobs during construction and 415 to 575 direct roles once operational. Due to ongoing UK grid connection delays, the facility will temporarily rely on an on-site gas power plant using fuel cells until a permanent grid connection is established, while water requirements will be supplied via an existing private licensed borehole pipeline.
