SoftBank has started building a major data center in Tomakomai. The Hokkaido Data Center project, first announced in November 2023 with its subsidiary IDC Frontier, is a $455.8 million undertaking spanning 700,000 square meters (7.5 million sq ft). The initial phase is set to launch in 2026.
