SoftBank Group, Singaporean technology company Grab Holdings, and Malaysian oil and gas firm Petroleum Sarawak Berhad (Petros) have signed a framework agreement to explore an AI and digital infrastructure platform in Sarawak, Malaysia. Details of any planned data center development have not been disclosed.
Under the agreement, the three parties will “collaborate to develop a roadmap” for the phased development of the platform, which will “support Sarawak’s ambition to develop a high-value, technology-driven economy, while contributing to the expansion of Malaysia’s digital infrastructure and connectivity.”
The partnership will explore opportunities in AI computing, robotics, advanced technologies, workforce development, and community initiatives. Petros is wholly owned by the Sarawak government, while Nasdaq-listed Grab offers ride-hailing, food delivery, and digital payments across Asia. Sarawak has attracted several proposed data center projects, including plans from Poseidon Technologies, Aizo Group, Netrunner, and FutureData’s 500MW development.
