East Lothian Council has selected London-based Sustainable Development Capital LLP (SDCL) as the preferred supplier to develop a hyperscale data centre on the former coal storage site of the decommissioned Cockenzie Power Station, located between Prestonpans and Cockenzie/Port Seton.
The project is currently in early pre-development, with legal agreements expected to take up to a year before entering statutory public consultation.
While the exact size of the data centre campus has not been officially confirmed, the broader site has undergone major preparation works, including earth leveling and infrastructure upgrades, led by Balfour Beatty under a £12 million contract.
