On July 16, 2024, the Pittsylvania County Board of Supervisors (the Board) approved a rezoning application submitted by Anchorstone Advisors SOVA LLC. The rezoning allows for a data center development in the Dan River District.

The Board's approval rezones 945.79 acres off U.S. Highway 58 and State Road 735 (Cedar Road) from R-1, Residential Suburban Subdivision District, and A-1, Agricultural District, to M-2, Heavy Industrial.
The proposed development, known as the Route 58 East Data Center Campus, suggests up to five buildings are planned.
Anchorstone Advisors SOVA LLC's project could see an investment of $4-5 billion. Prior to this rezoning approval, the Board had approved a revision to the Pittsylvania County Code at its May 21, 2024 meeting. This revision allows for data centers to be permitted by special use in the M-2, Industrial District, Heavy Industry zone.
