Plans are underway to transform the 140-acre Riverview Innovation and Technology Campus near Buffalo, New York, into a 500,000-square-foot data center development. Property owners Jon Williams and John Yensan, partnering with an unnamed developer, have proposed a potential $2 billion investment that could break ground late 2026 and finish by the end of 2027. However, the project faces opposition from the Clean Air Coalition of WNY, which prefers the site be used for renewable energy generation and storage.
Located at 3875 and 3800 River Road, the property was used for coke manufacturing from 1917 until 2018, when the Tonawanda Coke Corporation closed following bankruptcy. Williams and Yensan purchased the heavily polluted site at auction in 2019 for $1. Their remediation firm is currently handling the ongoing environmental cleanup and demolition, which will run concurrently with the data center's construction.
