Meta: Project Splitrock

Lot Size: 1,077 acres

Project Splitrock, the proposed 1,077-acre Meta-backed data center in Howell Township, was officially withdrawn by developers in December 2025 just hours before a final vote by the Board of Trustees. The withdrawal followed unanimous recommendations for denial from both the township and county planning commissions, fueled by intense local opposition over water usage, energy demands, and the preservation of rural land. While a six-month moratorium on data center applications is currently in effect, the withdrawal is viewed as a tactical pause, with the developers likely to resubmit a revised proposal once the township establishes new regulatory standards in mid-2026.
