In Eagle Mountain, Utah, Meta Platforms (previously Facebook) maintains an extensive data center campus. The Campus, situated at 1275 North Community Circle, began construction in 2018. The first data center on this site became fully operational in 2021.
The Eagle Mountain campus has since expanded to encompass seven individual data centers. Collectively, these facilities cover an impressive 4.5 million square feet.
Meta (then Facebook) unveiled its plans for a $750 million data center campus near Salt Lake City in 2018. The initial proposal outlined a 1,000,000 square foot (93,000 square meter) facility. In 2019, the company announced its first expansion, adding 500,000 square feet (46,000 square meters) to the project. A second major expansion of 900,000 square feet was revealed the following year.
In 2022, Meta announced plans for a mega expansion of the site. This latest addition, consisting of two buildings, will increase the campus by approximately 2 million square feet. The expansion will bring Meta's total capital investment in the Eagle Mountain project to $1.5 billion.
The data center is powered by 100%, net-new renewable energy through utilization of Rocky Mountain Power's available renewable energy tariffs. It represents the first use of Rocky Mountain Power’s Electric Service Schedule 34, which allows qualified customers to receive power from completely renewable sources.
