Maxland Bhd, a Malaysian timber company, had planned to expand into the data center industry through a partnership with Global Data Centre Sdn Bhd (GDC). The company secured a 60-year lease on approximately 4.6 acres in Kulim Hi-Tech Park for the development of a data center facility in collaboration with GDC.
However, in May 2026, Maxland cancelled the land lease after a strategic review found that the site no longer aligned with its revised investment priorities. The two companies had also signed a Memorandum of Understanding covering potential joint projects in solar and power plant development across Malaysia.
