In August 2026, Google was identified as the prospective anchor tenant, pledging to cover 100% of its utility infrastructure costs and forego local property tax abatements. With the Salix City Council voting 3–2 against a proposed development moratorium in late August 2026, the project remains positioned for formal rezoning and site plan filings, even as an ongoing legal dispute with Woodbury County over the site's annexation continues.
In 2017, Google announced a commitment to power the company and its data centers entirely on renewable energy. In 2018, Google reached the 100% of their goal.
