In 2026, Google purchased approximately 1,700 acres of land in Putnam County, West Virginia, for a multi-billion-dollar data center campus. Located near Buffalo, the site was officially approved as a "High Impact Development Project" on March 27, 2026.

While technical specifications remain in the early planning stages, the project is expected to create several thousand construction jobs and hundreds of permanent roles. As part of the development, Google has committed to covering all associated electrical, water, and sewer infrastructure upgrades and will be responsible for 100% of the facility’s electricity usage.
