Google Advances Plans for its First French Data Center
April 13, 2026
Google’s ambitious billion-dollar data center expansion in Finland is currently stalled as the tech giant awaits clarity on a proposed 40-fold increase in electricity taxes. While Google secured 1,400 hectares of land in Kajaani and Muhos last year, the company has paused its final investment decision, citing the need for "regulatory stability" in the face of a potential rate hike from €0.0006 to €0.0225 per kWh.
This fiscal uncertainty, part of Finland’s 2026 budget discussions, threatens the country's status as a burgeoning hub for green data infrastructure and has prompted other major players, like XTX Markets, to similarly review their long-term investment roadmaps.
